Development and Validation of an Automated Ultrasonic System for the Non-Destructive Evaluation of Welded Joints in Thermoplastic Storage Tanks

25 January 2013, Barcelona, Spain – Technology Assistance BCNA 2010 S. L., a SME type company and its project partners have launched of the European Seventh Framework Project ‘Development and Validation of an Automated Ultrasonic System for the Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) of Welded Joints in Thermoplastic Storage Tanks’ within the EC - FP7 'Capacities' programme under the call for 'Research for SMEs'. The PolyTank project will determine the potential failure mechanisms in plastics tanks and storage vessels and develop ultrasonic NDE procedures, techniques and systems to be able to identify these. An important aim of the project will be to develop an inspection system that is site-rugged and simple to operate ...

High Pressure Premium Switches Improve Equipment Uptime, Simplify Design, and Reduce Manufacturing Costs

Honeywell introduced its Pressure Switches, High Pressure Premium, HPS Series, the only pressure switches available in the industry with a two million life cycle rating, IP67 environmental sealing, and multiple port and termination options that improve equipment uptime, simplify rapid design and assembly, and reduce total production costs for Honeywell’s OEM customers. The HPS Series are durable, reliable electromechanical gauge pressure on/off switches that are available with either single pole single throw (SPST) normally open or normally closed circuitry, or single pole double throw (SPDT) circuitry. They are designed for use in rugged transportation and industrial applications that require the making or breaking of an electrical connection in response to a pressure change of the system media., configurable pressure switch ...

Differential Pressure Sensors for Flow Measurement in Bypass Configuration

The Swiss sensor manufacturer Sensirion recently added new differential pressure sensors to its proven SDP600 series. The SDP601 and SDP611 sensors are differential pressure sensors specifically calibrated for measuring mass flow in a bypass configuration. In a bypass configuration, an orifice or a linear flow restrictor is used to generate a differential pressure in a flow channel. The resulting pressure is measured over the orifice or the linear flow component. The difference be-tween the pressures before and after the orifice correlates to the volumetric flow in the channel, depending on the specific characteristics of the flow re-striction component. The mass flow can therefore be calculated from the measured pressure drop (differential pressure) over the orifice ...

6 Degrees of Freedom Inertial Measurement Unit, 6-D Motion Variant

Honeywell announced its Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), 6-D Motion Variant, 6DF Series, designed to provide motion, position, and navigational sensing from a durable single device over six degrees of freedom. The six degrees of freedom is achieved by using MEMS (microelectromechanical system) technology to sense translational movement in three perpendicular axes (surge, heave, sway) and rotational movement about three perpendicular axes (roll, pitch, yaw). Because the movement and rotation along the three axes are independent of each other, such motion is said to have "six degrees of freedom" ...
