Combined Torque and Angle Sensor for Electric Power Assisted Steering Applications

RIVERSIDE, Calif., May 10, 2011 - Bourns, Inc., has announced a new combined torque and angle sensor designed for Electric Power Assisted Steering Applications (EPAS) and other automotive systems. The new combined sensor provides torque and steering angle measurement in a single package, replacing two discrete sensors for significant space and cost savings. Based on Bourns’ Hall Effect (HE) non-clockspring torque sensor technology, the combined sensor uses driver input to measure the steering torque while simultaneously converting the rotation speed and direction of the steering wheel ...

Pressure Sensors Constructed for Sub-sea Level Measurement

Mt. Olive, NJ, May 16, 2011 - Sub-sea level measurement can be accomplished with the use of a pressure sensor. Typically an ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) is lowered into the ocean with a pressure port either installed inside an enclosure or completely exposed to the sea water. As the ROV is submerged, water pressure is exerted on the diaphragm of a pressure sensor. The deeper the system is submerged, the higher the pressure. By calculating salt water density at 1.025 (or 2.5 % more dense than fresh water at 4°C) a correlation between pressure and output signal can be made to measure equipment depth ...
