The 12th annual NSTI Nanotechnology Conference and Expo was held this year June 21st-24th at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, California, U.S.A. The conference was co-located with TechConnect Summit 2010, Clean Technology 2010 and TechConnect World 2010. Over 3,500 participants from 70 countries and over 270 exhibitors attended the combined TechConnect, Nanotech and Cleantech programs to contribute to over 2000 pages of peer-reviewed micro and nanotechnology research. The combine symposia bring together researchers from different disciplines to share and exchange ideas toward developing micro and nano technologies into complex systems that can provide sensing, communication, and power in an intelligent, mobile, small package.

For the fourth year in a row, 30 papers were selected and authors were invited to submit extended versions of their conference publication for this journal special issue. Of these, following peer-reviewing, 8 were selected to be published. They present research in the areas of micro and nano tech biosensing, microsystems modeling and simulation, sensors and fabrication using advanced materials.

Special thanks are extended to both the NSTI directors and Nanotech chairs (Dr. Matthew Laudon and Dr. Bart Romanovicz) and to the Sensors & Transducers editors for offering the opportunity to publish this special issue.
