Abstract: The perovskite oxides, Dy1-xSrxCrO3 (0£x£0.1) were synthesized by a novel microwave assisted combustion route and characterized by X-ray diffraction. X-ray pattern of Dy0.9Sr0.1CrO3 showed the presence of small amounts of SrCrO4 impurity. The perovskite oxides were tested as candidate materials for humidity sensing by measuring the variation in their DC resistance as a function of relative humidity in the range of 5-98 % at 25oC under static conditions. The sensitivity factor, Sf (R5%/R98%) for DyCrO3, Dy0.95Sr0.05CrO3 and Dy0.90Sr0.10CrO3 were calculated to be 218, 3609 and 6364 respectively. The response and recovery characteristics were studied for Dy0.90Sr0.10CrO3, which exhibited good linearity in log R vs. RH plots and narrow hysteresis loop in adsorption-desorption investigations.
