Abstract: The acquisition and analysis of human electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the focuses in biomedical engineering research. ECG commonly changes their stastical property overtime and is non stationary signals. The analysis of ECG has been widely used for diagnosing many cardiac diseases. In this paper we propose a method for the detection of heart diseases using the signal processing tools of LabVIEW and MATLAB. The proposed algorithm is implemented in two stages. First, it preprocesses the ECG signal to remove the noise using LabVIEW signal processing tools and second, spatial velocity function is used for the QRS complex detection. Then, based on the maximum of the squared spatial velocity corresponding to QRS complex, R-peak is detected in the smoothed signal. With reference to R-peak in smoothed signal other features of diagnostic importance mainly P-wave duration, T-wave duration, R- wave, Q-wave width and their amplitudes, ST-segment and frontal plane axis are also determined. Along with these characteristic points heart disease coding and scoring patterns are used to identify different heart diseases. In this work CSE multilead ECG data base which contains 5000 samples recorded at a sampling frequency of 500 Hz for 10 seconds and the ECG data base created by the S.G.G.S Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nanded (M.S) have been used.
