Abstract: Robust design and axiomatic design provide systematic and effective approaches to deal with quality problems for product design, and their integration will be better to improve product quality. In this paper, independence axiom is used to represent system structure and capture design requirements. The relation between robustness and coupling degree is firstly discussed. Then the sensitivity index is utilized to measure the sensitivity of functional requirements to the variation of design parameters, and a variable sensitivity analysis is utilized to consider model uncertainty for nonlinear system. Multiple objectives of robust design are traded off in the compromise decision support problem. An example has demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed design method.
