Post Doc in Biomedical Microfluidics. A post-doctoral position under the direction of Bruce Gale and Steve Blair is available in the area of biomedical microfluidics, microfabrication, and microscale optics. The successful candidate will work on realizing a rapid, microfluidic-based DNA and protein analysis platform designed for use in personalized medicine.

The ideal candidate will have recently completed a PhD in an engineering or science field and will have significant expertise in microfabrication techniques. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: optics, surface chemistry, microfluidics, biosensors, or DNA/protein analysis (including PCR). The position will begin July 1, 2006 and run for up to 1 year. These dates can be modified if necessary and there is potential for an extension of the position.

Applications should contain: a CV, full list of publications, copies of relevant publications, a letter (one-page max) describing their strengths for the project, and names and conatact details for three references.

Applications should be mailed in PDF format to bruce.gale@utah.edu

Applications will be reviewed on a continual basis until an appropriate applicant is found. The University of Utah is an Equal Opportunity/ Affirmative Action employer.

4.

PhD position on Nano Fluidics. This project will concentrate on developing technology and devices for biomolecular analysis. The research will concentrate on the detection and separation of particles in sub- 100nm channels with the ultimate goal to detect and identify single molecules. Technology will be developed to fabricate nano-fluidic devices with embedded structures for single molecule detection and manipulation. Detection fundamentals and manipulation methodologies are studied and judged on their applicability. Based on this fundamental knowledge and technology, devices will be developed to explore analytical applications as well as to serve science in studying nano fluidics and single molecular behaviour. This multi-disciplinary project will be carried out in collaboration with the Bio-Physics and the Bio-Chemistry groups of the university (vacancynumber ATEWI 2005.20)
