MEMS High Sensitivity DC Response Accelerometers for Crash Sled and Aerospace Testing


January 10, 2006, Depew, NY, USA - The Vibration Division of PCB Piezotronics, Inc. (PCB®) introduces Series 3741 New High Sensitivity MEMS DC Accelerometers. Series 3741 offers several models to accommodate various crash sled acceleration profiles, and full scale ranges from 2 to 200 g, up to 2k Hz measurement capability, and sensitivities up to 1 V/g, to accommodate both automotive and aerospace applications.


The Series' rugged, low-profile design allows for mounting on restricted areas of crash simulation sleds, truck axles and aircraft wing surfaces. Their DC response allows for measurements in both static and dynamic environments. Accelerometers include mechanical over range stops, to prevent damage due to rough handling and transient shock environments. Internal amplification provides high-level signal (±2 V FSO) at low acceleration levels, for low amplitude motion measurements on automotive and aerospace structures. Sensors are also gas damped, and are temperature compensated for stable measurements in varying environments.


This series has been specially designed in response to more stringent automotive safety testing standards, and accompanying occupant safety system requirements, including side-impact protection, child restraints/seat testing, pedestrian protection, wheelchair integral restraint systems (WIRS), SAE J2249, and rear impact/whiplash. MEMS Pressure Sensors for Direct Internal Blood Pressure Measurement


Quebec, Canada, January 4 - Opsens' OPP-M is a MEMS-based fiber optic pressure transducer designed for human and animal physiological pressure measurements. iT Series Vibration Transmitter with Expanded Options


Wilcoxon Research has expanded its line of 4-20 mA loop powered vibration transmitters. Wilcoxon's Intelligent Transmitter (iT) Series has expanded to allow customers to select from a full line of features at the time of order, including displacement measurements, and true peak and peak-to-peak detection.


Options for the iT Transmitter, signal-conditioning modules that make online vibration monitoring available for less, now include four different outputs of r.m.s., peak, true peak, and true peak-to-peak; measurement of acceleration, velocity or displacement; and a selectable full scale that can be specified in standard or metric units.


The Intelligent Transmitter, a vibration transmitter, converts vibration sensor signals to proportional 4-20 mA output for use in existing PLC/DCS networks, and can operate at much lower or much higher frequencies than typical ISO-standard 4-20 mA sensors ...

JetMix System with Integrated Water-in-Oil Measurement


A Jiskoot JetMix system with integrated water-in-oil measurement was selected to provide representative water content analysis for a major North Sea Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.


Chosen because it is the only technically viable solution, the JetMix system provides fully mixed flow to the water-in-oil monitor whilst creating a negligible pressure drop ensuring that gas does not 'flash-off' from the high RVP condensate liquid.


The JetMix guarantees mixing in the 16in line according to the ISO3171 standard required for accurate water measurement. The water-in-oil monitor is mounted as part of the mixed JetMix loop ensuring the measurement is representative of the whole pipeline contents.


The type of power mixer used is designed to maintain the fluids in a liquid state and ensure they are homogeneous for fiscal analysis or sampling. Automotive Pedestrian Protection System


Passive safety on the road gains increasingly more relevance with each passing year, as the lives of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians are given top priority. Automotive pedestrian protection systems are currently being introduced in the European Union (EU) with the goal of reducing the number of car accident injuries and fatalities among vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians. It is by a voluntary agreement between the EU and the ACEA, the European Association of Car Manufacturers, that the automotive sector undertakes the task of improving the front end design of their vehicles in order to meet such regulations.


The IEE Protecto® system is able to fulfill these needs by offering high reliability, design flexibility and easy adaptability at an attractive price. Protecto® is a complete pedestrian protection system that enables car manufacturers to meet the new European and Asian regulations by reducing head injuries, in car impacts that involve pedestrians. Protecto® includes a robust sensor unit that is easily integrated into the bumper system and is able to very quickly detect the impact of an object to the bumper area. Also a part of Protecto® is an electronic control unit that includes a proprietary algorithm developed by IEE. Industrial 8-port Ethernet Switches Feature Redundant Ring Technology for High Reliability


Wixom, MI: Acromag announced their EIS Series of industrial Ethernet 8-port switches. The top of the line EIS-408 model is web-managed and provides six 10/100Base-TX copper ports and two 100Base-FX fiber ports. On the unmanaged EIS-308, all eight ports are 10/100 copper. Both models feature self-healing redundant ring technology for high reliability. An economical unmanaged switch without redundancy, the EIS-308, is also available. All models include auto MDI / MDI-X crossover and auto-polarity; IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u compliance, IEEE 802.3x flow control on full-duplex, and back pressure on half-duplex. A rugged IP30 aluminum enclosure resists shock, vibration, and free-fall impacts. Other industrial-grade specs include -10 to 70°C operation, 1200V AC port-to-port isolation, redundant DC power inputs, and built-in RFI/EMI and surge/transient protection.


Redundant ring technology  provides a self-recovery mechanism in the event of a communication failure to ensure non-stop system operation. If any segment of the primary communication path is broken or disconnected, the switch will self-reconfigure and provide a redundant path in the network. Zin Technologies and FLX Micro Join Forces to Develop Sensors for HARSH Environments
