Abstract. A simple and low-cost fiber grating sensor system designed to simultaneously measure temperature and strain effects is presented. The sensor was constructed with a referenced fiber Bragg for temperature measurement and a pair of fiber Bragg gratings for both temperature and strain detection. Experimental results showed that measurement errors of 0.25 oC and 6 µE for temperature and strain were achieved, respectively.
