Part 6. Digital Sensors and Program-Oriented Conversion Methods

Abstract. This part is beginning from the program-oriented conversion methods (PCM) definition and classification. It is shown that frequency (period, time interval, duty-cycle, phase shift, etc.) conversion can be implemented in microcontroller inside its functional-logical architecture. Then the detailed design methodology and optimal choice of program-oriented conversion method realization inside modern microcontrollers are described. Important design targets are: high accuracy, high speed and low power consumption at high reliability, minimum possible hardware and low cost. This design methodology is suitable for different digital sensors, which are based on frequency-time domain sensing elements and contains an embedded microcontroller. The 6th part contains also a detailed analyze of error components. Especial emphasis is given to additional, software related components of resulting conversion error and its reducing. The part is illustrated by experimental results and examples of PCM realisation.
