Part 8. Virtual Instruments
Abstract. The most precise and strict mathematical definition of virtual instruments is given. It is shown how to differentiate virtual instruments from measuring systems based on PC interfacing standalone measuring instruments, measuring systems with GUI and microcontroller-based measuring systems with virtual measuring channel. Industrial DAQ boards from different manufacturers for frequency-time domain parameters are reviewed. The part also contains virtual instruments examples: virtual thermometer, data logger for pressure sensors, virtual tachometer and videographic paperless recorder.
