Cavity Pressure Sensors

Kistler offers the right sensor for any dimensions – with front diameters from 1 mm (Type 6183A…) to 6 mm (Type 6152A…), or miniature sensors with side cable outlet Type 6184A…. There are, however, other factors that dictate the choice of sensor. For example, fillers and abrasive materials require sensors with a front coating, which Kistler offers for all standard sensors in the form of abrasion-resistant chro-mium.

In addition to cavity pressure, the combined pressure and temperature sensors Types 6189A… and 6190B… can also measure contact temperature. For optical components and class A surfaces, which must be free from any impression of the sensor on the molding, measuring pins (e.g. Type 9247A...), which are mounted behind the wall of the cavity in the mold, measure the compression strain of the steel caused by the cavity pressure ...

Advanced Accelerometers for New Main Engine Controllers

On August 8, a trio of main engines provided by Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne lifted the space shuttle Endeavour into orbit and on its way to the International Space Station. The Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSMEs) were fitted with new controllers, using Endevco model 7704M7 vibration sensors, to actively monitor engine health and performance.

The Endevco model 7704 series IsoshearR piezoelectric accelerometers are designed to be extremely stable and insensitive to environmental inputs such as base bending and thermal transients. This accelerometer series has been tested in a radiation environment up to 108 rads without performance degradation and features Endevco's PieziteR Type P-8 crystal element, operating in shear mode. In addition, it is a self-generating device that requires no external power source for operation ...

ISSYS Receives Patent for Fuel Cell Sensor

YPSILANTI, MI - (Marketwire - August 22, 2007) - Integrated Sensing Systems, Inc. (ISSYS) has announced that the U.S. Patent Office has granted them a utility patent (US 7,228,735) entitled "Fluid sensing device with integrated bypass and process therefor." A major hurdle in commercializing micro-fluidic devices has been their limiting low flow rates. This patent describes a new method and design which allow micro-fluidic sensors to monitor and test relatively high flow rates of fluids. This invention greatly reduces the complexity of micro-fluidic packaging for high flow applications ...

CANopen Device Profile for RFID Devices Released

Erlangen, Germany, 2007-09-04. The CAN in Automation (CiA) nonprofit organization has released the CiA 445 CANopen device profile for RFID readers/writers. The objective of the profile is to enable easy system integration of RFID readers into networks in factory automation, laboratory automation, medical systems, product and asset management, identification systems, etc. The device profile will make CiA 445-compliant RFID readers from different manufacturers interchangeable with a minimum of time and configuration effort.

Usually, a radio frequency identification (RFID) system consists of three parts: an RFID transponder (data carrier), an RFID reader (wirelessly reads/writes data to the transponder) and an external application (e.g. a CANopen networked device that controls the RFID system). The read transponder data may be used for control/diagnostic purposes in devices connected to the same network ...
